If you’re into chess, feel free to challenge me at gameknot. I was actually college chess champion back in the day. Fortunate to have represented IIT Kharagpur against the World Chess Champion, which was pretty cool.
Haven’t played competitively since then, but I still enjoy the occasional game. Now I mostly stick to Polish and Sicilian openings for their aggressive, tactical nature. Fair warning: I have a 42% timeout rate, so do message me when needed.
Favourite Chess Openings
Polish Opening
Fight for a spatial advantage on the queen-side
- An aggressive way to open multiple line of attacks.
- Queen with assistance of 2 bishops can keep pressure on black’s king side.
- Two knights support each other to deter exchange in centre until bishops are ready.
- B, C and H pawns play intricate roles depending on variation.
Sicilian Defense
Most aggresive defense for black, but extremely memory dependant.
Main Line
- Black should capture center.
- If offered an exchange for Nf6 vs Bc4, accept it
- Allows sharp lines
- Do not be afraid to exchange the g7 pawn.
- Aggresive play with queen side pawns and support from center pawns
Bowdler Attack
Most prominent in recent times. Attacking the f7 pawn.
The Four Knights Game
A safe opening, but only because it forces a constant willingness to enter into the battle.
The Symmetrical Variation
It is impossible to follow symmetrical lines forever. Both sides are looking for small advantages with exchanges at right moment. This line has been studied for decades. At GM level, it is very hard to avoid draw.
World Cup 2023 Open
